Home Improvements to Make Las Vegas Homes More Energy Efficient
Some improvements that give the best return
for your money don’t always increase the value of Las Vegas homes, but such work compensates for itself by cutting
energy costs. Deregulation, increased oil costs, enlarged demand from a booming
economy, and a multitude of other factors have combined to increase the utility
bills of homeowners across the nation.
Most homeowners overlook energy conscious
home improvements because cost-vs-value studies don’t include them and home
owners often can’t see them. How much you reduce your electricity bill depend
on what improvements you do for Las Vegas homes. Here are some home improvements you can do to make your home
more energy efficient:
Insulating the attic and walls provides the
most return for the least amount of dollars. A properly installed insulation on
the walls, floors, ceilings, and attic keeps out too much heat and cold and
gives even temperatures between rooms. Ceiling insulation alone can trim down
your heating bill by almost 20%. Even with adequate insulation, however, your
home won’t reap the full benefits if insulation is incorrectly installed or
becomes damp.
Install window films in Las Vegas homes
if you have the budget
to do so. The film is applied to the glass to reduce infrared solar heat and
ultraviolet radiation but let light in. Some of these films can keep out as
much as 98% of the heat while letting light in.
Inefficient, outdated heating, cooling, and
ventilation systems can harm not only your wealth but your health as well.
Uncirculated, stagnant air allows moisture, odors and pollutants to hang
around. Consider replacing your system if it’s about 7-10 years old. The energy
you can save can be as high as 30%.
Install Fluorescent bulbs. Although more
expensive than incandescent bulbs, they are more efficient and can last for 5
to 10 times longer.
