Las Vegas Homes Avail of Tax Credits for Energy Efficient Homeowners
The group Alliance to Save Energy reminds all American
homeowners, even those who own Las Vegas homes, to take
advantage of the tax gift that results from being energy efficient this Yuletide
season. All they need to do is consider tax credits for energy-efficient home
improvements. They can enjoy such benefits once they start filing their federal
tax returns for 2011. Tax credits can be
as much as $500; however, they have an expiration date of December 31.
Congress may not be able to renew such tax credits
in 2012. According to the Alliance, the possibility of having the tax
incentives on federal energy efficiency for next year is uncertain, if not
impossible. Hence, it is encouraging all
homeowners to finish necessary upgrades in their homes before the year ends on
December 31.
They are enticed to make significant improvements
on energy efficiency this year in order to lower home energy expenses and
reduce the federal income tax bill for 2011. At the same time, such efforts by
everyone will improve home convenience
that can be taken advantage by home owners for many years to come.
There are certain home improvements needed to be
done to qualify for significant tax credits. They fall on the following
categories:
- Exterior and storm
windows
- Insulation, skylights,
roofs, exterior doors, storm doors and specific products that seal any air
leaks, like caulking, foam sealants, weather stripping
- Efficient HVAC
(heating and cooling) gadgets and equipment; these include central air
conditioning units, heat pumps, boiler, furnaces, biomass stoves, and
water heaters.
Owners of Las Vegas homes must ensure
that every product category meets energy efficiency requirements. This can be
obtained from the tax credit web page of Alliance to Save Energy. Dollar limits
and percentages on specific upgrades to effect energy efficiency include the
following:
- 10 percent of the cost of sealing and insulation
materials, as well as exterior roofs and doors.
- 10 percent of the cost of skylights or exterior
windows, by as much as 200 dollars.
- Up to 300 dollars for electric water heaters,
heat pumps, centralized air conditioning units, and oil, natural gas, or
propane water heaters.
- Up to 50 dollars for advanced air-circulating
fans.
- Up to 150 dollars for propane, oil, or natural
gas oil furnace or water boilers.
