Prevent Tip-Over Hazards of Appliances in Las Vegas Homes

Many people do not realize that there are certain
appliances in their Las Vegas homes which create real dangers. Appliances like ovens that are unsecured can tip
over. There are tipped-over accidents reported in homes across the
country. It was reported that there were
1,600 injuries in 2006 from appliance tip-overs, most of which happened to
victims under the age of 5. Few deaths happened between 2000-2006, most of
which were children or adults. These deaths were mainly caused by freestanding
or slide-in stoves with oven doors dangling outward. These accidents are
annoying for safety advocates, who have worked for years to get both the
consumers and manufacturers to be familiar with the threat.

Families must be mindful of leaving children without
a guardian in the kitchen, even if the stove is switched off. Several accidents
come about when children try to climb on top of a stove door making the
appliance fall over. Senior citizens are also prone to those accidents when
they are leaning on it for support. If the stove is switched on at the time of occurrence,
the flame will only make the damage worse and the risk of death greater. In almost
all of the accidents that happened in 2006, not any of these appliances were accurately
secured to the wall. Experts recommend some preventive measures to avoid related
tragedies in the future:

  • Manufacturers must enhance the stability
of their designs. Models must be able to carry 100 pounds on an open oven door.
This may compel some foremost redesigns but the additional protection will be
good for everyone. The safer the product, the more consumers it will get.
  • Manufacturers must design door hinges
that lock in the open position.
  • It is better to install anti-tip equipment
that forbids an appliance from functioning, unless they are accurately
    installed.
  • Appliances must be programmed to shut
    off the heat automatically.

Consumers must be attentive that these types of occurrences
can happen in their Las Vegas homes.
Prevent this from happening to you and family by securing your stove with tip
restraints given by your manufacturer. New appliances made after 1991 must have
moved with them included.
